Earlier this week I got an email from another abdominal fitness guru, Craig Ballantyne, author of Turbulence Training for Abs and he read from a magazine which shows that cardio exercises do not really work much for your abs.
His statement was based from a British research that focuses mainly on the best four ab exercises that will give your great six pack abs. And they are the following:
1) Curl-up
2) Swiss Ball Curl-up
3) Swiss Ball Jackknife
4) Swiss Ball Rollout
In the study, they included 7 men and 7 women who were instructed to perform each of the exercises to see how each affected their upper abs and lower abs.
And the results were: the Curl-up ab exercise, Swiss Ball Curl-up, and Rollout all worked the upper abs harder than the lower abs. However, for the Jackknife, the lower abs worked harder than the upper abs.
If it's about time that you include these exercises to your daily workout routine if you want to really get a complete abdominal workout. But if ever you don't have the luxury of time or in a hurry you can do without the curl-up as it was found out that it is the least effective among all the other exercises mentioned above.
